10 Tips to Get Out of Bed FAST

Getting out of bed can be tough. Not all of us are early birds.

The alarm clock is going off and obviously, we all just want to remain warm and cozy in our bed, but our schedule does not allow us to.

We've all been there. It's painful and it sucks, but here are some helpful tips to make the transition easier so you can start your day off feeling energized. 

1. Open your Blinds Before Going to Sleep. 

Leaving your blinds open will allow more sunlight to enter your room in the morning and wake you up. It is really hard to go back to sleep when a beam of sunlight is in your face. A majority of people tend to have a hard time sleeping in a bright room. Vice versa, a dark room is more conducive to sleep. Sunlight reminds our body and mind that it is morning and that we have to get up. 

2. Drink Water Before You Sleep

So what if you have to get up before the sun? Drinking water before you sleep will cause you to go to the restroom in the morning. The need to use the restroom will help your body get up in the morning and prevent you from falling back to sleep. However, a large amount of water prior to sleeping will cause you to wake up in the middle of the night. I recommend drinking half a cup of water or experiment to find the perfect timing and amount of water you need to drink prior to sleeping. 

3. Place Your Alarm Clock Away from Your Bed. 

This tip is my personal favorite because it really works. By placing your alarm clock across the room you will be forced to get out of bed to turn it off. Getting out of bed is often the hardest part about waking up in the morning. By getting out of bed faster, you increase the likelihood of starting your day rather than going back to sleep. Having your alarm clock next your bed makes it easier to press the snooze button and sleep longer. Once you are out of bed, it’s usually easier to stay up. 

4. Play Your Favorite Music

I love to play my 2000's playlist in the morning to get pumped for the day. Waking up to the sound of the alarm clock can elicit negative feeling. This will cause you to start your morning off on the wrong foot. So, replace the negative vibes with positive ones by jamming out to your favorite tunes in the morning!

5. Caffeine

Consume Caffeine. Caffeine is a great source for mornings when you feel unproductive and groggy. To eliminate these feelings drink coffee or tea shortly after waking up. Not feeling caffeine? According to research found online, ice cold water will do the trick!

6. Excercise When you Wake Up. 

Some light exercise in the morning will get your endorphins flowing and give you more energy. Going to the gym or light jog outside can make a huge difference to your mornings. You could even just do a short easy workout such as some jumping jacks, crunches, or push-ups at the comforts of your own home.

7.  Eat Breakfast When You Wake Up

After sleeping for eight hours your body needs sustenance. A small and easy-to-digest meal in the morning will give you a boost of energy. I recommend a piece of fruit, smoothie, a glass of milk, or yogurt. If you have the appetite, a full meal like avocado toast with sunny side up eggs is my personal favorite. 

8. Do Something You Enjoy in the Morning

Stimulating your mind by doing an enjoyable activity will give you energy. I personally like to do my make up in the morning. Getting that perfect eyeliner makes me laser focused. There are multiple other activities you can do in the morning such as having a phone conversation with a friend or significant other, reading, roaming through Instagram, etc. 

9. Minimize Decision Making in the Morning. 

 Getting your bag and outfit ready the night before minimizes the time you spend making decisions in the morning to combat decision fatigue. This means getting your school bag, work bag, or food bag ready the night before. Lay out your clothes the night before so you don't have to think of what you want to wear in the morning. For example, Steve Jobs wears the same outfit every single day so he doesn't have to make these decisions in the morning.

Also, try to have a standard go to breakfast. For instance, a parfait or a fruit smoothie are good options. In the morning we usually max out our threshold of making decisions. Just waking up thinking about making these decisions like "I need to decide what to eat, wear, pack, etc." can give us anxiety and give us unnecessary stress in the morning. So to sum it up, get ready the night before. 

10. Keep a Routine

Keeping a regular and consistent sleep schedule helps your body get into a natural rhythm. Go to sleep and wake up at the same time each day. By doing so you will begin to naturally fall asleep and wake up at the same time each day. Waking up will feel more natural. It will help you fall asleep at a more regular schedule.
