The month of March is Women’s History Month, and in celebration of that, I would like to acknowledge some contemporary female leaders that are inspirational to me. Here are four quotes from four of my role models.
Malala Yousafzai: “When the whole world is silent, even one voice becomes powerful.”
Be the one who is different. If no one else wants to take action, your individual words and actions can create a big difference. Don’t be afraid to show others who you are and what you believe in.
Oprah Winfrey: “Turn your wounds into wisdom.”
We will all have successes and failures throughout our life. Of course, we will celebrate the successes that we have, but we should turn the failures into learning opportunities. Don’t be discouraged if something doesn’t work in your favor, analyze the experience and grow from what you realize you can improve one.
Michelle Obama: “Our greatness has always come from people who expect nothing and take nothing for granted – folks who work hard for what they have, then reach back and help others after them.”
Do what you do because you are passionate about it. This is the only true way to grow and learn from an experience. Having a humble mindset will allow you to reap the benefits in a genuine manner and more easily help others to achieve something as well.
Sheryl Sandberg: “Taking initiative always pays off. It is hard to visualize someone as a leader if she is always waiting to be told what to do.”
Be a leader who takes action. If you want to see something happen, take it upon yourself to try to make it happen. You are not guaranteed any result if you just sit back.
I am uplifted and moved by the things these women say. It constantly motivates me to push myself and step out of my comfort zone. I am grateful for the people I know that provide a strong support system for me, and those in the public media that motivate women like me to strive for greatness.
