Today's Actions are Tomorrow's Results
“When was the last time you did something new?”
You know, I really do not know. It seems that my life is a constant cycle. Eat, school, work, and (sometimes) sleep.
It is mid-quarter and I know I am at the point of going through the motions to end the quarter. Week by week I am just going to class, waiting for exams to be over, and submitting lengthy papers. It feels like a drag that continues to prolong itself, only ceasing after the dreaded finals week.
I know that I am doing everything I can in order to set myself up for success. Whether it is studying harder or picking up an extra shift at work, I want a greater end result. But still, it feels like I am just floating amongst everyone else.
After recent events, it was only then that I came to the realization that we all have the power to shape our own lives and paths. We all have the ability to put in effort, stay persistent, and use the encouragement given by others to motivate ourselves to start something big. We just need to activate these abilities.
Life gets boring when you stay within the limits you already know. I do the same things every day and it gets very monotonous. Life really begins at the edge of your comfort zone. By pushing yourself into unfamiliar situations you get to experience different things. Being able to work through something new is special in itself, because you get to see your own character in a new light. If it does not challenge you, it does not change you.
I always wonder what it would be like to get an internship at a large company or get my dream job. Now I know that only I have the ability, in my own hands, to work towards it. By chance things may work out in my favor, but waiting for something to happen guarantees nothing. I am guaranteed some effect if I do it myself.
Every small step you put towards something you want is a benefit in the long run. Because, if you want something you never had, you must do something you have never done.
My high school counselor always used her mantra, “a goal without a plan is just a dream” to try to motivate us on a daily basis. It was her words I believe have changed the way I perceive all my endeavors today. If you want to achieve something, you must take a step towards accomplishing it.
You can do it. Push yourself.
