Jasmine Cheng, the Composed Director of Public Relations

"I am able to reach a level of intimacy with other members that I can’t find in a co-ed organization."

Jasmine Cheng is professional, tactful, and hardworking. She has enjoyed Davis Women in Business’s close-knit community which is something she wasn’t able to find from other clubs. “Everyone in DWIB supports each other in a nice, collaborative way,” she emphasized to me. “It has allowed me to grow and develop as both a professional and as a person.” Jasmine has flourished in her professional life, but, more importantly, has formed lifelong friendships.

The Director of Public Relations is a sophomore, yet has served on the PR board since her freshman year. Discussing her role within DWIB, Jasmine commented, “I work with companies and outside sources to bring them back to DWIB. I’ve always been interested in professional development since high school, and the skills I’ve learned in DWIB are very transferable to the real world.” Jasmine quietly works behind the scenes with her board associates, communicating with companies and professional organizations to organize info sessions, tours, and networking events for the women of DWIB. When I asked her how to get involved, she dispensed some very practical advice: “Come to as many of our events as you can and get involved! Talk to members and network with people. Try to get the most out of every event, no matter how big or small it is.”

In a manner true to PR, Jasmine was careful to emphasize that while other business clubs were welcoming, DWIB was where she was able to blossom. “Other clubs are male-dominated, and it can be very blunt. DWIB is more relaxed and chill; I was interested because it focuses on women. It means a lot [to me] to be a part of a woman-centered organization because I am able to reach a level of intimacy with other members that I can’t find in a co-ed organization.”

As a whole, Jasmine’s role contributes so much more than just facilitating events for DWIB. Her work and ability to communicate quiet yet profound knowledge transcends the club, serving both the greater community and the women within it.

Jasmine concluded by discussing one of our upcoming events, a Career Fair. She hinted at a variety of companies that would be there, including newer ones DWIB has never been able to network with before. You can catch this members-only event on November 26 from 7:00-9:00 PM!
