Angel Yi Lin: DWIB Member Spotlight

Junior Angel Yi Lin is the current director of Professional Relations but her journey with DWIB started back in her freshman year. In fact, it was the first club she joined as a freshman in fall quarter of 2019. Right off the bat, Angel joined the PR board as an associate and it exposed her to a new world where she got to develop her talents and discover new skills, “It [DWIB] allowed me polish many professional skills, such as communication, leadership, public speaking, and organization.”

This past summer Angel worked at the United Nations Headquarters in NYC as a Marketing Strategy Intern. Angel currently works for the Center for Student Involvement as a Social Media Assistant and is one of the founding members of a consulting club on campus called RSO Consulting Group.

In our interview with her,  Angel reflected a lot on her growth during the pandemic, “this past year has taught me a lot about making the best out of any situation”. As an International Relations major, one of her major goals was to study abroad during her sophomore or junior year. However, in light of the pandemic, she had to watch many of the programs that she was eyeing be rescinded or become too risky. As a self described “avid planner” she felt like her collegiate academic plans were ruined. From that point though, Angel chose to find the better side of the problem. She made a plan to learn a new skill every month and possibly perfect it as much as possible (e.g. Notion in January, Ceramics in February, PowerPoint animations in March, etc.). This plan allowed her to appreciate the small things in life, while becoming a much more well-rounded individual.

When looking to the future, one of her main goals is figuring out what her true passions are. “I think as a Junior in college, there are many expectations where you have to figure it all out by this time.” However, one of her big takeaways from DWIB and DWIB alumni is that it's okay to take your time.
